Your group chat is broken. We fixed it.

A torn-paper collage of tangled blank speech bubbles unravelling from a scribble, symbolising Partycast untangling the group chat.

Partycast is your group chat for the whole night. It stays up to date with the friends you're actually partying with right now. Whenever right now is.

Imagine going out and the right group chat magically creates itself with the friends you're partying with right now. Then it quietly changes as the night goes on to match who you're actually with.

Dave heads home, so he drops out of the chat. Elsa arrives, so she joins it. At any point in the night, you have a conversation with the friends you're actually partying with at that moment.

Tell everyone you're going to the bar. Ask if anyone needs anything from the shop. Let them know you've found a better room. Or just ask the most important question of the night: where the fuck is everyone?

No deciding who to add. No starting another group chat when the plans change. No messaging people who left hours ago.

    That is Partycast.

Your group chat was not built for going out

    Normal group chats are static.

Someone creates one based on who they think is coming. Somebody gets forgotten. Somebody brings a boyfriend. Two friends turn up four hours late. Three people leave for another party. Someone creates a second chat, apparently for reasons of national security, and now half the plans are happening in the wrong place.

Meanwhile, the original chat carries on forever. It is still sending notifications the next afternoon, when nobody needs to know that Lewis is by the cloakroom.

The group changed. The chat didn't.

    Partycast does.

You don't create it, name it or manage who is in it. It works out which of your friends are partying together and gives you one place to talk.

    You just go out.

It works anywhere: house party, club, or even a festival

At a house party, Partycast grows as friends arrive and gets smaller as people leave. Use it to explain which buzzer to press, ask who wants something from the shop or announce that everyone is leaving in five minutes, 45 minutes before anyone actually moves.

In a club, GPS might know your friends are somewhere in the same enormous building. Partycast goes further, helping connect the people upstairs, downstairs, outside and standing beside the wrong speaker.

At a festival, your group will split up. Obviously. Partycast keeps the different pockets of friends connected without anyone having to rebuild the chat every time somebody wanders off to another stage.

    You decide when you're in

Partycast only works when you choose to go live on Aftrs by setting yourself to Partying or Looking.

You decide whether all your Aftrs friends can see you or only your Inner Circle. When you go invisible, you leave Partycast too.

It isn't public to everyone at the party, club or festival. It doesn't show you strangers nearby. It only connects you with friends you have chosen to share with.

Two people at the same event might therefore see completely different Partycasts.

    Good. That's the point.

    The clever bit

Behind the scenes, Aftrs combines GPS with Bluetooth Low Energy.

GPS gives us the general area. Bluetooth helps work out which friends are actually nearby, particularly inside clubs, across different floors or at festivals where location signals can be a bit all over the place.

Aftrs can also follow the links between friends. You might be near Dave, who is near Elsa, who has found everyone else upstairs. Partycast can understand that you are all partying together without needing every phone to be standing in one perfect little circle.

There is a lot of complicated logic underneath it. There shouldn't be a lot of complicated logic for you.

We've also designed it to be careful with your battery. Bluetooth Low Energy uses very little power, and Aftrs avoids constantly demanding more location information than it needs.

Your phone needs to make it to the afters too.

    This is only the beginning

Aftrs started as a way to see which of your friends were out. Then we added private messages that disappear after 24 hours.

Partycast brings those things together and starts solving the next problem: how do we make coordinating with friends on a night out easier, without making the night itself feel organised?

Because we absolutely do not want to turn partying into admin.

Take Partycast to a house party, a club or a festival. Tell us where it works, where it gets confused and what you want it to do next.

We're extremely fucking excited about it.
